Location:
Montpelier, District 5, Idaho. 3‑5 year horizontal career path with a 3‑step program. Starting wage: $21.05 – $21.55. Step One: $22.60. Step Two: $24.14. Step Three: $25.83. Applicants with five or more years’ experience operating a snowplow or loader may begin at Step Two.
Requires acquisition of a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 60 days of hire. Pre‑employment and random drug and alcohol testing required. Opportunity for overtime, weekends, holidays and occasional overnight travel.
Sign‑on bonus: $1,500.
Example of Duties- Perform entry‑level traffic services such as snow plowing, striping, and replacement or repair of traffic signs and posts.
- Perform entry‑level technical highway maintenance and engineering work.
- Operate various power tools and light and heavy highway and construction equipment to maintain roadways, signs, bridges, and other transportation facilities.
- Conduct routine inspections and field tests on construction and maintenance projects.
- Perform sample and routine material testing.
- Clear brush and lift and carry heavy objects.
- Work in all weather conditions, on congested highways, near operating equipment and in noisy environments.
- Shift work may include irregular hours, overtime, weekends, holidays and frequent travel to job sites.
- Occasional exposure to chemicals and toxic materials requiring periodic biological testing and medical clearance.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience operating vehicles with manual transmissions.
- Must pass a driving record check.
Driving an ITD vehicle. Must pass a driving record check to be considered for the position.
Disqualifiers- Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident within the last 3 years.
- Four moving violations within the last 3 years.
- Failure to submit to a chemical test within the last 3 years.
- Three moving violations within the last 2 years.
- Six points or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs within the last 12 months.
- Two moving violations within the last 12 months.
ITD requires a random drug test and review of the FMCSA Clearinghouse record both before employment and annually. Additional testing may be required as listed in the FMCSA requirements.
