Job Description
The Assurance Experienced Associate will prepare financial statements with disclosures, apply basic areas of GAAP as necessary, and document, validate, test, and assess various control systems. This role may involve reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements.
Responsibilities- Control Environment
- Apply knowledge of collective effect of factors on policies, laws, rules, and regulations.
- Identify applicable policies, laws, rules, and regulations of the firm, regulators, and other authorities.
- Make constructive suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Document and validate operating effectiveness of clients’ internal control systems.
- GAAP
- Apply governing principles to client transactions and communicate understanding.
- Provide support of conclusions with authoritative literature.
- Draft financial statements with disclosures.
- Research intermediate areas of accounting and form an independent opinion on treatment.
- GAAS
- Develop intermediate knowledge of auditing theory and use BDO audit manuals.
- Apply auditing theory to client situations.
- Document in line with BDO policy, identify deviations, and notify senior team members.
- Identify when testing can be reduced or expanded and notify seniors.
- Contribute ideas and opinions to engagement teams.
- Methodology
- Apply BDO standards to guide delivery of quality services.
- Complete documentation of BDO work papers.
- Ensure work performed per BDO methodology and requirements.
- Research
- Research accounting topics and form independent opinions.
- Other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required) or degree in another field plus CPA certification (required).
- Master’s in Accountancy preferred.
- Eligible to sit for CPA exams upon starting employment (required) and actively pursuing completion.
- CPA certification preferred.
- One or more years of audit experience, or experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services (required).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools.
- Basic understanding of planning an audit of a public or private company.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes‑Oxley, and related regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to adapt style to audience.
- Ability to multitask in deadline‑driven environments.
- Solid analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills.
