Job SummaryThis position maintains and reconciles ledgers and accounts according to generally accepted accounting principles in compliance with university, state, and federal policies for Advancement at the University of Utah. The Accountant will support staff with general accounting activities including payments of invoices, reconciliation of accounts, preparation of employee reimbursements, assistance with yearly purchasing card audits, end‑of‑month review/ sign‑off, and purchasing. This role will also prepare and analyze financial information based upon derived statistics and analysis performed to enhance fiscal accountability and reporting.
The Accountant reports to the Director of Administration for University Advancement.
The successful candidate will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, strong written and verbal communication, administrative, time‑management, and organizational skills, social and emotional intelligence, and the ability to triage and manage multiple priorities and projects. The successful candidate will be a detail‑oriented self‑starter with a strong work ethic and customer service orientation, will possess superior scheduling and organizational skills, will display the ability to work independently on projects from conception to completion, and will be able to meet deadlines.
A successful candidate must have operational knowledge of Microsoft Office and related computer software including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
This position requires the ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles, federal cost accounting regulations, and University policies and procedures to a variety of situations. The incumbent must interpret complex policies and effectively communicate the information in an easily understood manner. The incumbent is required to provide an analysis of each situation and use professional judgment in reaching a solution. The accountant is expected to recommend changes to accounting‑based procedures based on analysis performed and specialized knowledge.
Minimum Qualifications- EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
