Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an Accountant to work at the Vandalia Correctional Center. This position is responsible for preparing monthly financial reports and maintaining accounts payable journal. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

Essential Functions

* Posts accounts payable to the Funds Accounting and Commissary Trading System (FACTS) for Individuals in Custody and Employee Benefit Funds, matching receiving reports with invoices and committee approvals.

* Implements workflow activities between multiple Business Office functions.

* Prepares financial reports monthly by major detail object codes and of previous account payable balances, current month invoices, paid vouchers, and final accounts payable figures.

* Reconciles travel advance fund advances against amount vouchered when check is received.

* Serves as Business Office representative on the Individuals in Custody Benefit Fund Committee preparing a monthly financial summary report of individuals in custody (profits transferred), monthly disbursements and amount available to spend for the committee's review.

* Posts all miscellaneous collections cash receipts.

* Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting, or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.

* Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
