Staff Accountant

Location: Centralia

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a team in Centralia, Illinois in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position is well suited for an accounting specialist with experience managing core financial records, supporting tax-related work, and helping ensure accurate month-end reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of general ledger activity, journal entry preparation, and corporate accounting practices while contributing to day-to-day financial accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and record journal entries to maintain accurate financial data across accounting periods.

- Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to support reliable financial reporting.

- Assist with month-end closing tasks, including account analysis and preparation of supporting schedules.

- Support corporate tax activities by organizing financial information needed for filings and compliance.

- Handle sales tax reporting processes and help ensure submissions are completed accurately and on time.

- Contribute to the preparation of corporate tax return documentation in coordination with internal stakeholders or external partners.

- Maintain accounting records and documentation in an organized manner to support audits and reporting requirements. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- At least 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.

- Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.

- Working knowledge of month-end close procedures and account reconciliations.

- Familiarity with corporate tax and sales tax processes.

- Experience assisting with corporate tax return support activities.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines accurately.
