Summary
This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Civilian Personnel Records Center. The incumbent is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of a team of employees engaged in providing Reference and Operations work pertaining to military and/or civilian medical and personnel records, various general purpose and local Federal agency records, and military organizational records.
Duties- Supervise a subordinate staff consisting of approximately 10 to 15 archives aids and archives technicians.
- Coordinate operations of the unit. Assign duties, answer questions, interpret or explain policies and regulations.
- Develop and write procedures regarding unit work assignments and policies.
- Prepare, issue, and monitor routine internal instructions and procedures.
- Conduct staff meetings to convey and discuss suggestions, changes and new policies or procedures, which affect section operations.
- One year of experience (full‑time; part‑time prorated) in public, private, or volunteer service; specify dates and hours on resume.
- Probationary or trial period may be required; continuation contingent upon supervisory certification.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment as requested by the agency.
- For male applicants born after December 31, 1959, certify registration with the Selective Service System or exemption.
- Complete a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process requiring two forms of identification from the Form i‑9.
- Obtain and use a government‑issued charge card for business‑related travel.
- Work may involve office setting or records stacks, including climbing ladders, handling boxes of up to 50 lbs up to 16 ft above floor; work requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting.
- For GS‑07, specialized experience is defined as one year at the GS‑06 level or equivalent directly related to the position, equipping the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform duties. Specialized experience includes assisting with workload distribution, coordinating records transfer procedures, and communicating with various levels of internal contacts and management.
- Time‑in‑Grade:
Must have been at the GS‑06 level for 52 weeks. - Time After Competitive Appointment:
Candidates who are current Federal employees on a non‑temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
