Supervised by the Risk Manager and trained by the Risk Management and Insurance Administrator, the Risk Management Coordinator safeguards university operations and assets by administering risk programs, facilitating claims, supporting legal investigations, and advancing safety strategies.
Claims Management & SubrogationAdminister routine property, auto, liability, and workers' compensation claims across their full life cycle from initiation to resolution. Serve as the primary point of contact for claims guidance and actively pursue subrogation recovery.
Investigations & Stakeholder LiaisonGather critical documentation to support tort investigations, collaborating closely with campus partners, UNLV General Counsel, and the Attorney General’s Office and the University Police Department.
Fleet & Equipment OversightManage the UNLV fleet insurance and movable equipment schedule to ensure appropriate coverage, maintain accuracy, and prevent excess premium charges.
Risk Review & Safety AnalysisLog major campus events for risk review, generate loss runs, and collaborate on risk analysis to identify mitigation strategies, key safety improvements, and training opportunities.
Specialized Operations & Unit SupportManage credentialing verifications for the Kerkorian School of Medicine, ensure operational continuity by providing coverage during team absences, pursue ongoing professional development in risk management, and execute special projects or overflow tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThis position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in General business and/or insurance and risk management, or paralegal studies, from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 0 to 2 years of experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, applicants may qualify with four additional years of relevant experience, or with an associate's degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.
Experience working in a higher education or public-sector environment with exposure to regulatory and institutional risk protocols is highly desired. Candidates should ideally possess a working knowledge of OSHA regulations, Fire Life Safety, Workers Comp. and public entity terminology and concepts. Technical preferences include proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and various risk assessment and claim management tools. Additionally, preferred candidates will demonstrate strong emotional intelligence, excellent time management, and the ability to balance independent work with team collaboration.
The ideal candidate will have the capacity to interpret insurance policies, deliver presentations comfortably, and actively contribute to risk awareness across the institution. Preferred AINS (Associate In Insurance) certificate or the ability to get certified after hire within one year.
