2027 St Louis Summer Landscape Construction Internship - Caseyville, IL

Love working outside and want to put your degree to work?

Looking for a career and a company you can grow with, not just a summer job?

Want to see what it takes to operate a large-scale commercial landscape company?

What if you could spend your summer experiencing it firsthand?

Focal Pointe's 2027 Summer Landscape Internship gives you the opportunity to explore the many sides of the professional landscape industry. You'll rotate through different areas of our business, work alongside experienced professionals, get hands‑on experience, and see how everything from horticulture and irrigation to construction, design, client relationships, and business operations comes together.

This isn't an internship where you'll spend the summer doing the same thing every day.

It's an opportunity to see the industry from the ground up and start discovering where you could build a career.

Where Will You Spend Your Summer?

This internship is based in our Caseyville market. You'll primarily work alongside Focal Pointe teams in this market while also having opportunities to connect with other Focal Pointe professionals and interns throughout the summer.

What Could Your Summer Look Like?
  • Landscape Construction and Installation
  • Project Management
  • Construction Operations and Field Leadership
  • Estimating and Pre-Construction
  • Plan Reading, Site Layout, and Project Preparation
  • Irrigation Installation
  • Plant Material and Landscape Installation
  • Scheduling, Materials, and Equipment Coordination
  • Jobsite Safety and Quality Control
  • Business Operations
  • A self-selected area based on your career interests

Throughout the summer, you'll have the opportunity to learn how these different areas work together to serve our clients and operate a large-scale commercial landscape company.

Toward the end of the program, you'll have the opportunity to spend additional time in an area that aligns with your interests and career goals.

Will You Actually Get to Do Things?
  • Work alongside landscape construction teams on active commercial projects
  • Learn how to read landscape plans, specifications, and project documents
  • Assist with site layout, measurements, plant staking, and project preparation
  • Gain hands-on experience with landscape and hardscape installation
  • Assist with irrigation installation and learn how irrigation integrates into construction projects
  • Learn about plant material, proper installation techniques, and site conditions
  • See how projects move from estimating and pre-construction through installation and completion
  • Shadow Estimators and Project Managers to understand bidding, budgeting, scheduling, and project coordination
  • Work alongside Construction Managers and Superintendents to learn how crews, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and timelines are managed
  • Learn about jobsite safety, quality expectations, and communication with clients and project partners
  • Gain exposure to the business operations that support large-scale commercial landscape construction

Some days will be physical. Some will challenge you to think differently. Some may introduce you to an area of the industry you've never experienced before.

That's exactly what the internship is designed to do.

Qualifications

Who Are We Looking For?

  • Are currently pursuing a college degree and have completed approximately 60 credit hours
  • Have an interest in horticulture, agriculture, landscape architecture, construction, business, or a related field
  • Love working outdoors
  • Are curious and willing to ask questions
  • Want hands-on experience, not just something to add to your resume
  • Enjoy working as part of a team
  • Are willing to learn from people throughout the organization
  • Want to better understand the career opportunities available within the landscape industry
  • Can safely perform the physical responsibilities associated with outdoor landscape work, with reasonable accommodations when applicable
