Associate Producer

Job Summary

The University of Utah Athletics Department is seeking an experienced and driven Associate Producer to contribute to the success of the University of Utah’s ESPN+ broadcast and board show productions. This position will support all aspects of the broadcast of athletic events and related content, working in a fast-paced, high‑pressure environment with strong technical, creative, and leadership skills.

Serve as a lead graphics producer or lead tape operator, ensuring all assets are prepared and allocated by event day. When not performing those roles, provide leadership in educating and assisting students on Replay (EVS), Graphics (Xpression), or Switcher (Carbonite/Acuity/Hyper Max).

• Lead production meetings, create rundowns, gather assets, build graphics lists, and guide broadcast flow.
• Prepare for and direct ESPN+ shows by understanding the sport, teams, and student athletes, and navigating the camera crew through their assignments.
• Load Daktronics show‑control content, coordinate with the marketing/fan‑experience team, and lead & teach replay, video, TD, and camera crews on board shows.

Collaborate with the Creative Producer, Athletics Communications, and Digital Media teams to plan broadcast schedules, identify key story‑lines, and ensure all technical requirements are met for live and recorded broadcasts.

Provide creative direction for broadcast content, including graphics, replays, special features, and highlight packages, maintaining a cohesive and professional product aligned with Utah Athletics branding.

Support onsite technical leads with camera setups, lighting, audio, broadcast equipment, and troubleshooting during live events.

Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommend new tools and processes to enhance broadcast quality and fan experience.

Ensure all broadcasts adhere to NCAA, Big 12, ESPN, and University of Utah guidelines, standards, and compliance regulations.

Direct, produce, and/or assist in the production of special events such as concerts, graduations, and extreme sports (Supercross, Monster Jam, etc.), delivering high‑quality broadcast content.

• Demonstrated experience in sports broadcasting, media production, and content creation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field (equivalency accepted).
• Two years’ experience with television studio, field, editing techniques, and related equipment; familiarity with broadcasting regulations.
• Proven skills in research, public relations, writing, and working under deadlines and stressful conditions; emphasis on writing, producing, sophisticated graphics, and editing.

• Experience in a Power‑4 athletics production internship.
• Experience with live streaming platforms and digital broadcasting (e.g., ESPN+, You Tube).
• Experience with broadcast graphics and animation software (e.g., Xpression, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Experience with University of Utah Athletics, its programs, and its fan base.
