Position: DENTAL HYGIENIST FT
Location: Gibson City

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments.a. Treat dental problems or diseases.
2. Record and review patient medical histories.a. Record patient medical histories.
3. Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.a. Examine mouth, teeth, gums, or related facial structures.b. Operate diagnostic or therapeutic medical instruments or equipment.
4. Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease.a. Examine mouth, teeth, gums, or related facial structures.
5. Expose and develop x-ray film.a. Process x-rays or other medical images.
6. Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.a. Record patient medical histories.
7. Maintain dental equipment and sharpen and sterilize dental instruments.a. Sterilize medical equipment or instruments.b. Maintain medical equipment or instruments.
8. Feel lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.a. Examine mouth, teeth, gums, or related facial structures.
9. Provide clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients or the general public.a. Provide health and wellness advice to patients, program participants, or caregivers.
10. Apply fluorides or other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.a. Treat dental problems or diseases.
11. Maintain patient recall system.
12. Administer local anesthetic agents.a. Administer anesthetics or sedatives to control pain.
13. Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.a. Treat dental problems or diseases.
14. Conduct dental health clinics for community groups to augment services of dentist.a. Direct healthcare delivery programs.
15. Place and remove rubber dams, matrices, and temporary restorations.a. Adjust dental devices or appliances to ensure fit.
16. Remove sutures and dressings.a. Treat acute illnesses, infections, or injuries.
17. Make impressions for study casts.a. Fabricate medical devices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Strength to perform the following lifting tasks:

Floor to waist – 30 pounds
14” to waist – 40 pounds

Waist to shoulder – 20 pounds

Shoulder to overhead – 10 pounds

Carry 30 pounds for 30 feet

Push 40 pounds/force for 15 feet

Pull 40 pounds/force for 15 feet
2. Complete tasks with arm in extended position for extended length of time.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
1. Reports to the Dental Director.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:

1. Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene required. Current Hygiene License in Illinois. Previous experience required.
