Responsibilities
- The dental assistant works under supervision of the dentist or dental director
- Handle dental instruments and materials carefully and dexterously.
- Maintains operatories in a sterile condition.
- Cleans dental instruments and operatories.
- Maintains supplies and keeps inventory from being depleted.
- Controls patient flow and attempts to ease patients with conversation.
- Takes updated medical histories.
- Scans and chart preps 48 hours in advance, prepares charts for next day appointments
- Performs maintenance on dental equipment as deemed necessary.
- Performs other tasks as needed.
- Assists in exposure processing and mounting of dental radiographs and maintenance of patient’s radiographs as a part of the dental record.
Each employee has a primary work site(s) to which he/she is assigned. EVCHS, however, encompasses two sites. Therefore, any employee may be asked to work at another site if the need arises. No employee will be asked to perform work outside his/her job description/capabilities.
Qualifications- Understands basic principles of dentistry.
- Requires ability to relate to dental patients for dissemination of dental health questions within her realm as dental assistant.
- Requires a working knowledge of patient relationships.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with the hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, occasionally balance, stoop and kneel. The employee must lift and/or move 10 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
The performance of this job takes place in a health center setting. The employee will be exposed to moderate levels of noise in a moderately paced environment. There will be frequent patient or client contact over the telephone and in person. The employee will also work with other EVCHS departments to deliver optimal service and meet health center goals.
