Work Days:
Tuesday and Thursday Student Attendance Days / Mornings up to 3.75hours (Projected schedule of 8:30am - 12:15pm)
Rate of Pay: $17.35 per hour
JOB SUMMARYThe AVID Tutor must be dependable and serve as an advocate for the students served through the AVID program. The tutor is a role model and part of the supportive system for students. Duties include moderating/supervising small group and individual student work, facilitating student learning, assisting in the development of enrichment materials for use in tutorial sessions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direct supervision of the AVID Coordinator, the tutor will perform the following duties/responsibilities:
- Become familiar with the 10-Step AVID Tutorial process.
- Participate in all required trainings, professional development sessions, and meetings.
- Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by AVID students.
- Establish and maintain rapport with students.
- Tutor students in small study groups or individually, assisting them in all subject areas based on the class and text notes they have collected in their AVID binders.
- Determine from student notes and discussions the concepts that need to be taught or re‑taught.
- Facilitate student learning in a challenging, yet supportive, tutoring environment.
- Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and text notes, book notes, etc.
- Assist in developing a resource file of enrichment materials for use in tutorial sessions.
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for all AVID students to follow.
- Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator regarding student progress and areas of concern.
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- Currently enrolled in college/university courses
- Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours of college credit, an Associate Degree, or completion of the Work Keys Paraprofessional Program with a Certificate of Proficiency
- Prior experience working with students in an educational setting (preferred).
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply a variety of instructional techniques.
- Demonstrate the ability to adjust or accommodate lessons for students with varying need.
- Demonstrate the ability to complete assigned tasks/duties with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate the ability to respond to feedback in a professional manner.
- Demonstrate appropriate interaction with students treating them with dignity and respect.
- Demonstrate knowledge of school policies and provide supervision of students as assigned by building administration.
