Determined by graduate degrees/hours and level of experience. FY 27 Teacher Salary Schedule. Salary Schedule Step 1 Range: $46,280 - $54,211 (Bachelor - Specialist/Doctorate). District 19 recognizes all years of certified full-time service when placing teachers on the salary schedule. Board paid TRS. Benefits Package Available.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Elementary Art Teacher facilitates student success and growth in the visual arts by implementing district-approved curriculum and fostering essential interpersonal skills. This role documents teaching practices and student progress while addressing the unique educational needs of every child within a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. The position focuses on developing a deep understanding and appreciation of visual arts, encompassing a wide range of genres, historical periods, and artistic styles.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/License:

  • Illinois Professional Educators License with elementary education and art endorsements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in art education

Experience:

  • Successful prior teaching experience in art education is preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Creates meaningful learning experiences aligned with curriculum and district goals.
  • Promotes a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
  • Develops a balanced art program and lessons to manage class time effectively.
  • Provides instruction to students to help them meet their individual academic and career goals.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student artistic learning and progress; adapts instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; provides individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Utilizes a repertoire of art literature as appropriate.
  • Participates in conferences concerning student needs.
  • Maintains professional knowledge by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or through research.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate records for grading and reporting as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies; maintains behavior standards during practice, rehearsal, and performances.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions art supplies and equipment; maintains inventory and ensures equipment is in good working order.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of instructional principles, theories, current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including assessment practices and maximizing the educational experience of students.
  • Knowledge of elementary art curriculum and concepts across subject matters.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action planning.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer networks and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation for performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
