Summary
The Languages and Cultures Department seeks a faculty member with expertise in intermediate and advanced Spanish language and culture. Typically teaches 6-7 three credit hour courses per year, including both general education courses - first-year language requirement (GE2L), intermediate and advanced Spanish language, culture, film, and literature courses, major and minor courses in Spanish. Additional duties include advising, ongoing professional development, serving on campus-wide committees, assessment of academic programs, and supporting Christian Science-based character education in accord with Principia's mission as outlined in Education at The Principia.

Primary Responsibilities
* Teaches 18-21 semester hours per academic year in Spanish, all levels in the program that includes language, culture, film, and literature of Spain and Latin America.
* Is an active character educator in accordance with Principia's mission
* Teaches courses within the context of Principia's philosophy of liberal arts education
* Works closely with students to develop their thinking, reading, writing, research, and communication skills.
* Maintains office hours, meeting with students for academic advising, conferences, and academic support
* Takes a role in administrative activities of the language program (overseeing teaching assistants, managing student workers).
* Supports the General Education curriculum, Freshman Year Experience, and writing program
* Maintains an active presence in the discipline through scholarly work and professional development
* Assists in departmental and Center work, including assessment, program review, and development of curriculum, and general business and decision making
* Serves on academic committees
* Plans and leads department field trips in/to Hispanic speaking and culture-based sites.
* Works with colleagues to continue and further develop a strong and varied language program for students with a wide range of skill levels, within the context of the mission and goals of the program.
* Helps organize on-campus culturally related events & shows willingness to be a faculty advisor for the department-related student clubs.
