Summary
Shawnee Community College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Nursing Instructor committed to excellence in teaching and student success. Faculty are expected to maintain strong nursing expertise and deliver effective, student-centered instruction to a diverse student population.
The successful candidate will engage and support students, contribute to continuous improvement of the Nursing program, and collaborate with colleagues to promote student learning, retention, and program quality. This position offers the opportunity to join a dedicated team focused on providing accessible, high-quality higher education and fostering lifelong learning.
Essential Duties or Responsibilities
The essential duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Other duties may be assigned.
* Instruction & Curriculum Development
* Assist in curriculum development and instructional advancement in the field of Nursing, both LPN and RN.
* Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and help coordinate the development of plans to address those needs.
* Teach courses as assigned, based on program need and individual expertise.
* Assist in core curriculum evaluations, assessment of institutional effectiveness, and preparation of related reports.
* Academic Program Administration & Coordinator
* Coordinate departmental textbook orders.
* Assist with the coordination of dual credit classes.
* Clinical Education & Partnerships
* Maintain communication and work cooperatively with clinical instructors at off-campus instructional sites.
* Assist in obtaining qualified preceptors at each clinical facility and monitor preceptors and students at off-campus clinical locations..
* Compliance & Quality Assurance
* Maintain quality assurance to ensure compliance with all required accrediting and regulatory agencies.
* Faculty & Institutional Service
* Assist in the hiring of faculty or staff by serving on college search committees as needed.
* Student Recruitment & Outreach
* Conduct student recruitment through information sessions and outreach efforts to promote and grow the program.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Masters, Ph.D. or Ed. D with Master's in Nursing preferred.
* Minimum of three (3) years higher education teaching experience (classroom & clinical)
Certificates, Licenses, and Regulations
* Required:
Current unencumbered Illinois Registered Professional Nurse License or Eligible to be licensed in IL
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Strong knowledge of nursing theory, clinical practice, and current healthcare standards
* Ability to effectively teach and evaluate students in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
* Knowledge of curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation requirements
* Strong organizational, time management, and documentation skills
