The University Advisement Center is seeking to recruit multiple Academic Advisor I positions to conduct individual and group student academic advisement, to assist departments/units with verbal or written academic plans, and to interpret and implement university policies and procedures in the areas of student enrollment and evaluation. We are searching for staff who can find ways to continue to improve some of the fastest‑growing graduation rates in the nation.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Advise prospective and current students about academic requirements and selection of courses using advising systems and technologies. Disseminate information on university policies and procedures to faculty, parents, students, etc.
  • Maintain students’ files that are updated throughout their academic careers and make changes to records as necessary.
  • Analyze and process requests for readmission from academic exclusion and financial aid reinstatements; provide retention services for students who are part of the Academic Improvement Program.
  • May assist in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming students.
  • Audit student records for curriculum, major, and graduation requirements.
  • Evaluate and determine transfer credits; research course descriptions to determine transferability.
  • Compare transcripts with entrance and graduation requirements and advise students on appropriate actions.
  • Refer students with academic discrepancies to proper officials for further action.
  • Assist in the preparation of special reports relating to enrollment and related matters.
  • Evaluate and maintain student records for degree requirements using an academic evaluation system. Monitor student registration activities and academic performance/progress.
  • Coordinate communications to students regarding course scheduling, core and major requirements, academic resources, etc.
  • Determine award recipients based on academic performance. Review course adjustment forms and petitions for readmission of students. Process applications for state certifications, etc.
  • Monitor and track the retention, progression, and graduation of all students within the assigned population.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM HIRING QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree; or a combination of education and related experience.
PREFERRED HIRING QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preference may be given to those with a Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with student retention or student affairs programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience presenting to groups or with group facilitation.
  • Experience following up on problems until resolution.
