QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS- Hold a current and valid Illinois Professional Educator License
- Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching and/or related services experience, with middle school experience preferred
- LBS 1 endorsement and/or related services PEL preferred
- Strong knowledge of special education programming, service delivery models, and inclusive practices
- Working knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, MTSS, and the Illinois School Code as related to special education
- Demonstrate ability to collaborate with administrators, teachers, related service providers, support staff, students, families, and community members
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use technology and data systems as tools for organization, documentation, and decision‑making
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions
- CPI Certification required or the ability to obtain
The Special Education TOSA supports the day‑to‑day implementation of special education and student services programming at the middle school level. The position serves as a collaborative liaison among administration, teachers, counselors, related service providers, support staff, and families to ensure consistent implementation of IEPs, accommodations, behavioral supports, and service delivery. The Special Education TOSA assists with coordination, compliance monitoring, problem‑solving, and data‑informed decision‑making while working under the direction of building administration.

SUPERVISES:Classified support staff, as assigned
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Support the implementation and monitoring of IEPs and student accommodations to ensure fidelity and consistency across instructional settings
- Serve as the LEA representative in IEP meetings as assigned by building administration, ensuring procedural compliance and supporting collaborative decision‑making
- Co‑facilitate and support assessment planning and implementation, including classroom, district, state, and other standardized assessments, with a specific focus on accommodation planning and compliance
- Facilitate and support building‑level student services, MTSS, and problem‑solving teams, promoting collaboration among special education, general education, counseling, and related service staff
- Support functional behavior assessments (FBAs), behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and the implementation of positive behavior supports
- Serve as a problem‑solving partner to staff by helping navigate complex special education situations, identify creative and compliant solutions, and balance student needs, family concerns, and district obligations
- Provide guidance and backing to staff when working with high‑needs or high‑conflict family situations, ensuring communication remains respectful, student‑centered, and aligned with district expectations
- Participate in IEP meetings and student services meetings as assigned, supporting documentation, follow‑through, and implementation of team decisions
- Provide consultation and support to teachers and support staff regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, and inclusive practices
- Assist with supervision, coaching, and evaluation input for assigned classified staff, in alignment with district procedures
- Respond promptly and appropriately to student crises and urgent situations, serving as an active member of the building crisis response team and supporting de‑escalation, safety planning, and follow‑up in collaboration with administration and student services staff
