Job SummaryThe High School Counselor provides holistic support to students, focusing on mental health, social-emotional growth, academic success, and college/career readiness. This role promotes a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment by addressing students' emotional well-being, guiding their academic pathways, and preparing them for life beyond high school. The counselor collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, and community resources to ensure each student thrives.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counseling to support mental health, social-emotional development, and personal growth.
- Identify and respond to student mental health concerns, behavioral challenges, and social issues, referring to internal or community resources as needed.
- Develop and implement programs, workshops, and presentations on topics including stress management, resilience, conflict resolution, social-emotional learning, and study skills.
- Assist students with course selection, academic planning, and graduation requirements, integrating strategies that promote overall well-being.
- Guide students through college and career readiness, including college applications, financial aid, scholarships, career exploration, and leadership opportunities.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student achievement, address behavioral concerns, and create positive learning environments.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, student progress, and interventions.
- Participate in professional development, school-wide initiatives, and faculty meetings to enhance student success and mental health support.
- Master's degree in School Counseling.
- State licensure as a School Counselor.
- Strong knowledge of adolescent mental health, social-emotional development, academic counseling, and college/career planning.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and crisis management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, families, and staff.
- Experience in high school counseling or similar educational settings.
- Training in trauma-informed care, mental health interventions, and social-emotional learning.
- Familiarity with college admissions processes, scholarship guidance, and career readiness programs.
- Full-time position during school hours, with occasional evening or weekend events.
- Direct interaction with students, staff, families, and community partners.
