Reports to:

Job Goal:
To provide an effective classroom learning environment designed to meet the needs of all students

Qualifications
  • 1. Bachelor’s Degree with sufficient credits to be certified by the Illinois State Board of Education to teach assigned classes
  • 2. Continued professional development as required by district policy and State regulations

Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan and develop a course of study suitable for assigned grade levels and classes that is consistent with curriculum guidelines of the school district and the state.
  • Develop lesson plans in support of the curriculum that include a variety of strategies to encourage student engagement.
  • Implement classroom teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Prepare assignments and assessments to measure student attainment of learning goals.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with accepted protocol and state regulations.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and administer discipline, if needed, that is consistent with district policies.
  • Supervise students during passing periods and other times as assigned by the building principal.
  • Provides extra support for struggling students when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate student progress to parents/guardians as required by the school or whenever such communication is needed.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences during regularly scheduled times and at other times when necessary.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to meet the social and emotional needs of students.
  • Utilize the Response to Intervention strategies developed by the district to address the unique learning needs of students.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to make recommendations related to placement for the next school year.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committee meetings, educational conferences, and other professional development activities to ensure best practices are utilized in the classroom.
Essential Functions
  • Develops and administers art classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in art.
  • Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback to regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in art projects, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within fine arts, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Inspects art supplies to ensure they are in good and safe working order.

Starting Salary: BS $40,543
