Art Education Teacher K-8

Job Goal:
To provide an effective classroom learning environment designed to meet the needs of all students
- 1. Bachelor’s Degree with sufficient credits to be certified by the Illinois State Board of Education to teach assigned classes
- 2. Continued professional development as required by district policy and State regulations
- 3. Strong organizational skills
- 4. Ability to work well with students, parents, and staff
- Plan and develop a course of study suitable for assigned grade levels and classes that is consistent with curriculum guidelines of the school district and the state.
- Develop lesson plans in support of the curriculum that include a variety of strategies to encourage student engagement.
- Implement classroom teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
- Prepare assignments and assessments to measure student attainment of learning goals.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with accepted protocol and state regulations.
- Maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and administer discipline, if needed, that is consistent with district policies.
- Supervise students during passing periods and other times as assigned by the building principal.
- Provides extra support for struggling students when needed.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate student progress to parents/guardians as required by the school or whenever such communication is needed.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences during regularly scheduled times and at other times when necessary.
- Collaborate with other professionals to meet the social and emotional needs of students.
- Utilize the Response to Intervention strategies developed by the district to address the unique learning needs of students.
- Collaborate with other teachers to make recommendations related to placement for the next school year.
- Participate in faculty meetings, committee meetings, educational conferences, and other professional development activities to ensure best practices are utilized in the classroom.
- Develops and administers art classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in art.
- Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback to regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in art projects, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within fine arts, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Inspects art supplies to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
Starting Salary: BS $40,543
