The Special Education (SpEd) Resource Teacher provides individualized and small-group instruction to students with disabilities in a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This educator develops and implements specialized instructional programs aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to ensure academic and social-emotional success. The Resource Teacher promotes inclusion, fosters independence, and ensures that all students receive equitable access to curriculum and learning opportunities.
Education,Certification, and Licensure
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
- (Bilingual/ESL) Endorsement
- Elementary Education Endorsement
- Teach basic academic subjects to identified students requiring specialized instruction, using researched based programs to improve academic levels
- Administer achievement tests and evaluates test results
- Provide assistance to classroom teachers on bilingual techniques, methods and materials
- Collaborates with school staff for the purpose of planning and developing appropriate instruction
- Facilitating and attending meetings related to the academic success of students

- Analyze student performance, program effectiveness and make appropriate recommendations
- Minimum of 2–3 years of successful teaching experience in a special education or inclusive classroom setting preferred.
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers
, paraprofessionals, and related service providers. - Experience using research-based instructional strategies for academic intervention and behavior support.
- Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) frameworks.
- Experience in administering and analyzing formal and informal assessments to guide instructional decisions.
- Competence in using educational technology tools to differentiate instruction and monitor student progress.
- Experience facilitating parent meetings, IEP conferences, and collaborative problem-solving sessions preferred.
- Plan, organize, and deliver individualized and small-group instruction to meet the academic and behavioral needs of students with disabilities.
- Utilize research-based interventions to support student growth in reading, writing, mathematics, and executive functioning.
- Adapt and modify general education lessons and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district requirements.
- Work closely with related service providers (speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers) to coordinate support services.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents, guardians, and families regarding student progress and strategies for home reinforcement.
- Strong knowledge of differentiated instruction, inclusive education, and co‑teaching models.
- Ability to design and implement effective academic and behavioral interventions.
- Proficiency with data collection tools and digital learning platforms.
