Job Summary

The Spanish ESL Teacher provides comprehensive instruction that promotes students’ physical, mental, and emotional well‑being through physical activity and health education.

Education, Certification, and Licensure
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Bilingual/ESL Endorsement
  • Elementary or Secondary Education Endorsement
Experience
  • Experience teaching English Learners (ELs) in a bilingual, ESL, or dual language program preferred.
  • Experience using WIDA standards and assessments (ACCESS, MODEL, or Screener) desirable.
  • Background in differentiating instruction for diverse linguistic and cultural populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with general education and content area teachers.
  • Familiarity with language development frameworks and Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) strategies preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and deliver effective instruction to English Learners aligned with the Illinois English Language Development (ELD) Standards and Illinois Learning Standards.
  • Provide push‑in, pull‑out, or co‑teaching ESL services to support students in content‑area classrooms.
  • Assess and monitor students’ English proficiency using district‑approved assessments and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design differentiated lessons that integrate language and academic content.
  • Support students’ social‑emotional development and cultural adjustment within the school environment.
  • Develop and implement individualized language development plans (ILDPs) when needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress, attendance, and assessment data.
  • Prepare and submit all required state and district bilingual program documentation.
  • Participate in ELL committee meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Support classroom teachers in using strategies for sheltered instruction, scaffolding, and vocabulary development.
  • Promote multicultural awareness and appreciation among staff and students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in both English and Spanish.
  • Serve as a resource to the school community on issues related to second language acquisition and bilingual education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Director of Language Acquisition and Support.

  • Ability to plan and deliver instruction that integrates both language development and academic content.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish (oral and written) to support bilingual learners effectively.

  • Ability to use data‑driven decision making to guide instruction and monitor language growth.
  • Skilled in using technology tools such as Google Classroom, Seesaw, and digital ESL resources to enhance learning.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt lessons to meet a variety of learning needs and proficiency levels.
  • Demonstrates cultural responsiveness and respect for students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a professional learning community.
