Governors State University (GSU) is a minority‑serving institution and emerging Hispanic‑serving institution in the Chicago Southland region seeking to hire one full‑time tenure‑track position. The rank for the position will be Assistant or Associate. Employment will begin in the Fall 2026 semester, with hiring continuing until positions are filled. Qualified applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in Behavioral Health, Community or Public Health, Rehabilitation, Health Sciences, or a closely related field.
GSU seeks candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Community Health Systems and Theories
- Behavioral Health Interventions and Treatment
- Public Health Policy and Administration
- Health Promotion Evaluation and Implementation
- Social Determinants of Health
- Disability and Rehabilitation Science
- Chronic Illness and Disease Management
and/or Chronic Health and Wellness Promotion
The program currently offers a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Community Health and a Master of Health Sciences in Addiction Studies. The dynamic and committed faculty serve approximately 200 students in ASBH at the undergraduate and graduate level, including domestic and international students, as part of our mission to prepare students to succeed in a global society.
Responsibilities- Have outstanding teaching skills to teach and update undergraduate courses.
- Have experience working with non‑traditional and diverse student populations.
- Assist with the development of academic program and assessment.
- Participate in professional development, including serving on committees, maintaining a strong record of scholarship, and cultivating good connections with industry partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in Behavioral Health, Community or Public Health, Rehabilitation, Health Sciences, or a closely related field (ABD candidates may be considered for the Assistant Professor position).
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in behavioral health, community/public health, rehabilitation, or related field.
- Documented record of intellectual contributions through scholarly publications/presentations.
- Knowledge and ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate/graduate courses.
- Online/Hybrid teaching experience.
- Certification from Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) training programs.
- Knowledge of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed‑methods research using advanced software tools.
- Student mentorship and advising experience.
- Applied or clinical experience.
- Evidence of community engagement and service.
Assistant Professor: $70,000 to $76,000. Associate Professor: $70,000 to $87,000.
Teaching ModalitiesTeaching may include a mix of online (asynchronous and synchronous), hybrid, or on‑campus classes.
