Special Education Teacher – Herscher High School, School Year
SUMMARYTo provide instruction that focuses on the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of students. Supervises students under direct or indirect control.
DUTIES- Meet and instruct assigned classes at the locations and times designated.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc. and communicate these objectives to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives.
- Adhere to the published policies and procedures of the district.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Work cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis and remediation of individual students with specialized needs.
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress as needed.
- Make all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Make reasonable provisions for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as provided by contract.
- Valid Illinois teaching license appropriate for assigned grade level and/or subject area.
- Credentials:
Valid IL teaching license with proper endorsements. - Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, including coursework to meet credential requirements. - Experience:
Student teaching, internship, or previous employment in a teaching position. - Physical requirements:
Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds.
Full‑time / School Year
Salary: $41,333 (see salary schedule)
