Job Summary
The Upward Bound Project is a federally funded program to encourage post-secondary preparation of high school students from low-income families who are first-generation college-bound. The 2026 summer academy is a six-week in-person academic program that provides enrichment instruction in English, financial literacy, business, foreign language, mathematics, and social science, along with supervised recreation, guidance, peer advising, and career exploration.
Responsibilities- Provide tutoring and mentorship for high school students in Math, Science, English, and Social Sciences during class time and/or evening study halls, Monday through Thursday.
- Monitor student progress in classes and ensure their academic good standing.
- Attend weekly summer staff meetings.
- Participate in and join program activities.
- Communicate with professional staff regarding student progress.
- Promote a supportive environment for all participants and serve as a positive role model.
- High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.
- The incumbent must pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check.
- Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
- Good communication skills and experience working with youth.
- Strong academic background in Math & Science.
- Persons who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target population.
