Location: University

The Division of Psychology and Counseling at Governors State University in University Park, IL, United States, invites candidates to apply for an on‑campus Lecturer position in our CACREP accredited Counseling program. This position will begin mid‑August 2026. This is a full‑time, twelve‑month teaching position with typically three courses each term (Fall, Spring, and Summer) for a total of 27 credits a year.

There is additional compensation for teaching more credits. This is a continuing position as long as all retention criteria are met each year.

The faculty member may be assigned to teach courses on campus and occasionally online in the Master of Arts program and the doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) program. This position is for the specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. The Master of Arts in Counseling program offers three sequences, which include Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC);
Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling (MCFC); or School Counseling (SC). The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has approved the School Counseling sequence leading to the Educator License with an endorsement in School Counseling. The CES program prepares counselors for opportunities in the fields of higher education and advanced clinical practice in professional counseling and supervision.

Required

Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctoral degree in counseling (preferably a CACREP‑accredited program) or earned a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full‑time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013 or (3) have been employed as a full‑time doctoral‑level faculty member in a CORE accredited master’s program prior to July 1, 2017 or (4) have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018.
  • Ability to teach on‑campus and online courses in counseling at the Masters and Doctoral levels.
  • Ability to supervise master’s and doctoral students.
  • Ability to lead doctoral dissertations.
