Location: Carterville
The Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) is a grant-funded workforce development initiative designed to prepare individuals for entry into highway construction and infrastructure careers. The program delivers a structured twelve-week training experience offered twice annually, integrating classroom instruction with applied, work-based learning aligned to industry expectations and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) standards.
The HCCTP Math for Trades Training Instructor provides instruction in applied mathematics contextualized to construction and related trades. This role is responsible for delivering competency-based instruction in measurement, fractions, decimals, ratios, geometry, and introductory algebra, with a focus on real-world applications in construction environments. Instruction is integrated with hands-on activities and job-site scenarios to support participant comprehension, skill development, and successful transition into the workforce.
The Instructor collaborates with program leadership and workforce education staff to ensure instructional delivery aligns with program goals, grant requirements, and industry expectations, contributing to participant success, program completion, and employment readiness.
This is a part-time position with a variable schedule based on program delivery needs.
Education & Experience
Credential to be Verified by Placement Officer
Required
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and relevant experience
- Experience delivering instruction, tutoring, or facilitating learning in mathematics, adult education, or workforce training environments
- Demonstrated knowledge of applied mathematics concepts relevant to the construction trades (e.g., measurements, fractions, decimals, ratios, and basic geometry)
- Ability to translate mathematical concepts into clear, practical, and job-site-relevant instruction
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in mathematics, education, construction management, workforce education, or a related field
- Experience delivering math instruction within vocational, technical, or trades-based training programs
- Experience developing or adapting instructional materials, lesson plans, or curriculum to support applied learning
- Experience working in workforce development, adult education, or grant-funded training programs
- Familiarity with construction environments, industry practices, or technical trades settings
Instructional Delivery (Math for Trades)
- Deliver contextualized mathematics instruction aligned with construction and trades applications to support participant skill development and workforce readiness
- Teach foundational math concepts, including measurements, fractions, decimals, ratios, and basic geometry, in applied, jobsite-relevant contexts
- Integrate hands-on activities, demonstrations, and real-world examples to reinforce mathematical concepts and enhance learning outcomes
- Assess trainee progress through evaluations, assignments, and practical applications to measure comprehension and skill attainment
- Provide individualized support and targeted remediation to assist participants in developing math proficiency and confidence
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that meets the needs of diverse learners
- Collaborate with HCCTP instructional staff and program leadership to align math instruction with technical training components and program objectives
- Reinforce connections between math instruction and workforce expectations, including jobsite applications and industry practices
- Maintain accurate and timely records of attendance, participant progress, and instructional outcomes in accordance with program and grant requirements
- Support program accountability by ensuring documentation aligns with workforce, institutional, and grant reporting expectations
