Location: Brownstown

Brownstown Elementary School is seeking 1.0 Special Education/Autistic Support Teacher to enhance the multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) for students with disabilities. The Autistic Support Teacher is responsible for providing case management for students with disabilities, developing tailored teaching plans, collaborating with parents and support staff, and assessing students’ progress to help them achieve important learning milestones outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).

The Autistic Support Teacher works directly with students and classroom teachers utilizing various models of support to provide instruction and support for students who qualify for this level of service.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Pennsylvania Code, Chapter 14.
  • Draft individualized and compliant special education paperwork based on the unique needs of each student, including Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Assess students’ needs using formal and informal measures.
  • Collect and analyze data on students’ academic performance, behavior, and social-emotional development.
  • Monitor and report progress on IEP goals.
  • Provide intervention and direct instruction that is differentiated and aligned with IEP goals.
  • Participate in and lead regular meetings with parents, school administrators, and other professionals to review, update, and modify IEPs as needed.
  • Modify and adapt the general education curriculum to meet the needs of students with disabilities, using specialized teaching techniques and resources.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students, focusing on academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Implement strategies and interventions to address behavioral issues, using positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and behavior modification techniques.
  • Create an organized, accessible, and safe classroom that is conducive to learning for students with diverse needs.
  • Foster a positive, supportive classroom climate where students feel respected and encouraged.
  • Participate in the functional behavior assessment (FBA) process.
  • Design and implement positive behavior support plans (PBSPs) for students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education, including ensuring students’ rights are upheld under laws like IDEA.
  • Keep accurate records of all meetings, assessments, IEPs, and communication with parents, in order to meet legal and professional standards.
