Position: Assistant Professor-in-Residence and Basic Course Director, Communication Studies [R0150386]
Location: Campus

Position Overview

Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence and Basic Course Director, Communication Studies, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). 12‑month appointment commencing Fall
2026.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee, manage, and coordinate the Public Speaking Course at UNLV, which includes more than 60 sections per semester offered in hybrid and online formats.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses for traditional and online degree students.
  • Administer all aspects of the introductory course, Public Speaking, including curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate instructors associated with the basic course.
  • Assess and update the course to ensure effective public‑speaking skill development.
  • Collaborate on the launch and implementation of five workforce‑readiness micro‑credentials linked to communication skill development.
  • Support the redesign of the M.A. program as a fully online, professional‑oriented degree focused on workforce development and career readiness.
  • Perform service and support university initiatives related to curricular innovation and workforce readiness as approved by the chair and dean.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Communication or a related field from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or CHEA, completed prior to start date.
  • 1–3 years of minimum experience in teaching, curriculum development, or instructional design within higher education.
  • Expertise in Instructional Communication, Assessment, and Learning, and prior experience serving as a Basic Course Director.
  • Experience with workforce development, career readiness, experiential learning, or community‑based learning practices.
  • Secondary expertise preferred in Interpersonal / Family or Mediated Communication.
