Hinckley-Big Rock CUSD #429 is seeking a collaborative, student-centered leader to serve as Director of Special Education. This position provides strategic leadership, oversight, and compliance management for all special education programs and services across the district. Primary responsibilities include providing leadership and supervision of all special education programs, staff, and services; ensuring district compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations;

overseeing the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) & 504 Plans; supporting principals and staff in meeting the diverse needs of students with disabilities; managing special education staffing, programming, and budgets; facilitating professional development for staff related to special education best practices; coordinating with outside agencies, cooperatives, and service providers; leading problem-solving and student support processes; and serving as a resource for families.

Qualifications include an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative endorsement, Director of Special Education endorsement (or eligibility), successful experience in special education teaching and/or administration, strong knowledge of special education law and compliance requirements, and demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Compensation is salary and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a hiring range of $75,000-$80,000 for a 205-day administrative contract starting August 1, 2026.
