Role Clarification & Key Performance AreasThe Faculty of Dentistry is a world-class Oral Health Centre committed to excellence in teaching, service delivery, and research. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
- Teaching and training, including appropriate training, supervision and facilitation of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Implementation, monitoring and evaluation of appropriate teaching and learning practices.
- Rendering service to patients on the Oral Health platform at appropriate UWC sites.
- Stimulating and conducting research and producing publications.
- Mentoring staff in the department.
- Leading and stimulating faculty and departmental community engagement initiatives.
- Leadership and management experience.
- PhD in the relevant field (preferred but not required for academic ranking).
- Experience teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate students in Prosthodontics.
- Interest in all aspects of the specialty and excellent research and publications record.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Good interpersonal and sound communicative skills.
- Effective organising and mentoring abilities.
- Master of Dentistry (MChD) or equivalent specialist degree in Prosthodontics.
- Minimum of 5–7 years post‑qualification experience.
- Experience facilitating teaching and learning of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Experience in staff training for advanced restorative work and/or other areas in Prosthodontics.
- Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Prosthodontics.
- A broad understanding of all aspects of the specialty and an excellent research record.
- Publications record.
- All of the above requirements, plus:
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning, research, postgraduate supervision and administration, in order to contribute to the Department’s academic objectives.
- Research and publication record, preferably in Prosthodontics.
- Expertise in any sub‑specialty in Prosthodontics.
- A record of successful postgraduate masters supervision.
- PhD in the relevant field (preferred but not required).
- Evidence of expertise, national standing, and where appropriate, international presence in the discipline.
- Demonstrated academic leadership in teaching, learning, research, supervision and administration, contributing to the Faculty’s academic objectives.
