Job Summary
Instruct middle school band students. The instructor is responsible for teaching classes in the building according to teacher schedules. Arrange and move instruments, music stands, chairs and other equipment as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the different building locations and at the times designated.
- The teacher plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
- The teacher creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of group behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward achievement of goals and in harmony with goals establishes clear expectations for student performance.
- The teacher employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
- Confers with the district band directors on the condition of music equipment and sheet music and provides for necessary repairs and maintenance if able.
- Keeps informed of the latest developments in the field of music, shares relevant information to other band teachers.
- Auditions students for band placement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervises classroom and students
Language SkillsMust have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Must be able to write reports and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
Reasoning SkillsMust have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The successful candidate must possess the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit, and occasionally walk and stand. May be required to push or lift up to 25 lbs such as musical instruments.
The employee will frequently use manual dexterity and or finger dexterity and repeat the same hand motion many times while performing the duties of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read music or handwritten typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will frequently drive while performing the duties of this job.
The employee will hear conversations in a quiet and noisy environment and have the ability to tell where a sound is coming from.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud; work is performed mostly indoors.
