Job Summary:
The Physical Education/Health Teacher provides comprehensive instruction that promotes students' physical, mental, and emotional well-being through physical activity and health education.
Education, Certification, and Licensure:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Physical Education (PE) Endorsement and Health Education Endorsement
Experience:
Experience teaching physical education and/or health at the junior high or middle school level preferred Experience integrating fitness technology or digital learning tools into physical education lessons desirable Demonstrated ability to implement differentiated instruction for diverse learners Prior experience promoting social-emotional learning (SEL) and student wellness through movement and teamwork
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging physical education and health lessons aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards for Physical Development and Health. Design age-appropriate activities that develop students' fitness, coordination, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Implement instructional strategies that promote lifelong physical activity, personal health, and emotional well-being. Deliver comprehensive health education instruction, including topics such as nutrition, safety, substance abuse prevention, growth and development, and mental health awareness.
Create a safe and positive learning environment that encourages participation and supports diverse learning styles and abilities. Assess student progress regularly using formative and summative tools; maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and performance. Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment and facilities; report any safety concerns promptly. Supervise students responsibly during class, transitions, and school-related events. Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, and support staff to integrate wellness and physical activity across the curriculum.
Promote student leadership, cooperation, and positive behavior through physical activity and team-based instruction. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student performance, behavior, and wellness goals. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and attend staff meetings, workshops, and district professional development. Support the school's extracurricular and wellness initiatives, such as fitness clubs, intramural programs, or family health nights. Maintain compliance with all district, state, and federal safety and health guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or District Administration to support the educational mission of the district.

Salary $50,727 - $64,233 Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms
