Humanities Adjunct Instructor Pool

Shawnee Community College is seeking qualified and passionate educators to join our Humanities Adjunct Instructor Pool. This pool will support instructional needs in a range of part-time, temporary teaching assignments, which may be offered during the day, evening, weekend, or in hybrid/online formats.

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for providing high-quality instruction and facilitating student learning in accordance with institutional standards and course learning outcomes. Adjunct Faculty teach assigned courses, engage students through effective instructional practices, assess student performance, and contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment.

Adjunct instructors may be assigned to teach in one or more of the following subject areas offered at SCC:

• Art
• Economics
• English
• Government
• History
• Literature
• Music
• Philosophy
• Psychology
• Social Work
• Sociology
• Speech

PAY $600 per credit hour

The essential duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

• Deliver instruction of assigned courses using effective teaching methods and strategies.
• Develop, maintain, and distribute course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments consistent with approved curriculum and learning outcomes.
• Facilitate student learning through classroom, online, hybrid, or other instructional settings as appropriate.
• Evaluate and assess student performance in a timely and accurate manner.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and other course-related documentation.
• Communicate regularly with students regarding course expectations, progress, and academic support resources.
• Participate in required training, professional development, and departmental meetings as appropriate.
• Collaborate with the Department Chair and other college personnel to support student success and program effectiveness.
• Maintain a learning environment that is respectful, inclusive, and supportive of diverse student populations.

Other related duties which may be required by the Vice President of Academic Affairs or Department Chair (duties that may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but are generally within the occupational series and responsibility level associated with the employee's class of work).

Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

• A master's degree and a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline or a closely related field of study are required.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.
• A master's degree in the teaching discipline is preferred.
• Prior teaching experience in a community college setting is preferred.
