A. Logan College is seeking talented and dedicated Applied (Private) Music Instructors to provide individualized music instruction and mentorship to students pursuing their musical and academic goals. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through one-on-one teaching while supporting student success, artistic growth, and performance excellence.
As an Applied Music Instructor, you will guide students in developing technical proficiency, musicianship, artistic expression, and performance skills while preparing them for recitals, juries, transfer opportunities, and lifelong engagement with music.
Position Summary
The Applied (Private) Music Instructor provides individualized music instruction to students enrolled in applied lesson courses. Instruction is tailored to meet individual student needs and is aligned with departmental learning outcomes, performance expectations, and transfer preparedness.

A. Logan College by fostering student achievement, artistic development, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Applied (Private) Music Instructors are assigned students based on departmental needs, instructor expertise, student enrollment, and instructor availability.
One-Credit-Hour Applied Lesson
* Fourteen (14) thirty-minute private lessons per semester
* Compensation: $280 per enrolled student
Two-Credit-Hour Applied Lesson
* Fourteen (14) sixty-minute private lessons per semester
* Compensation: $560 per enrolled student
Lesson schedules are established collaboratively between the instructor and student and maintained consistently throughout the semester whenever possible.
Compensation is based on assigned student enrollment and lesson format.
Minimum Qualifications
* Master's Degree in Music from a regionally accredited institution; or
* Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Music.
* Demonstrated expertise in the applied performance area for which instruction is assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous college-level teaching experience.
* Experience providing individualized applied music instruction.
* Professional performance experience in the assigned musical discipline.
* Experience preparing students for juries, recitals, competitions, or transfer auditions.
* Experience working with students from diverse educational backgrounds and skill levels.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Learning
* Provide individualized instruction in assigned musical discipline(s) to support student learning and achievement.
* Develop students' technical proficiency, musicianship, performance skills, artistic expression, and discipline-specific competencies appropriate to their level of study.
* Design and deliver instruction aligned with course outcomes, program objectives, and individual student learning goals.
* Prepare students for juries, recitals, transfer auditions, performances, and other instructional assessments as appropriate.
* Evaluate student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
* Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and artistic growth.
Assessment and Documentation
* Complete and document all scheduled instructional sessions for assigned students.
* Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and instructional records in accordance with College and departmental requirements.
* Assess student progress using established instructional and departmental standards.
* Participate in applied music juried examinations and other required assessment activities.
Communication and Collaboration
* Communicate regularly with the Applied Lessons Coordinator regarding enrollment, scheduling, student progress, instructional concerns, and program needs.
* Collaborate with Music Department faculty and staff to support student success and departmental initiatives.
* Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community partners.
Non-Essential Functions of the Position
* Support Music Department concerts, performances, recruitment activities, workshops, and special events as appropriate.
* Participate in departmental meetings, professional development opportunities, and community engagement activities when requested.
* Perform other duties reasonably related to the instructional mission of the Music Department.
Work Conditions
* Regularly communicates with students, faculty, and staff in person, virtually, and through written communications.
* Frequently demonstrates musical techniques, instruments, or performance-related activities associated with the assigned discipline.
* Frequently remains stationary while providing instruction and assessment.
