The Assistant Dean for Health Sciences reports to the Dean of Health Sciences and Director of Nursing and serves as a division-level academic leader responsible for advancing the strategic priorities of the Health Sciences programs. The Assistant Dean provides leadership and oversight for fiscal management, continuous quality improvement, and academic excellence across assigned programs. The Assistant Dean exercises delegated decision-making authority within assigned Health Sciences programs and operates under the general direction of the Dean of Health Sciences and Director of Nursing.

This role exercises delegated authority in the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and supervision of full-time and adjunct faculty and coordinates faculty orientation, mentoring, and ongoing professional development initiatives.

The Assistant Dean champions student success by addressing student concerns and supporting initiatives that promote enrollment, retention, and completion. In collaboration with divisional leadership, the Assistant Dean supports curriculum development and revision efforts and facilitates industry partnerships that strengthen program quality, workforce alignment, and experiential learning opportunities, including apprenticeships and internships. The Assistant Dean also coordinates academic scheduling, identifies facility and resource needs, and ensures that faculty and students meet all regulatory, accreditation, and clinical participation requirements.

Education & Experience Requirements

Education Required:
  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Higher Education Leadership, or a health sciences–related discipline from an accredited institution.
Preferred:
  • Additional graduate coursework or credentials in leadership, administration, education, or a related field.
Experience

Required:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of instructional experience in a postsecondary or healthcare education setting.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a healthcare or health sciences–related field.
  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership for personnel, projects, programs, or events.
  • Experience building and sustaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across multiple modalities, including speaking, presenting, writing, and professional networking.
Preferred:
  • Five (5) or more years of instructional experience.
  • Experience working within a community college or similar open-access higher education environment.
  • Experience with curriculum development, program review, or academic program improvement.
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience with healthcare accreditation, regulatory, or compliance processes.
  • Experience with budget development, fiscal oversight, or resource management.
  • Experience researching, writing, implementing, or managing grants.
Essential Functions & Position Duties Leadership & Decision-Making
  • Exercise delegated authority in the recruitment, credentialing, evaluation, and supervision of full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Provide leadership in resolving student, faculty, and operational issues using sound judgment and collaborative decision-making.
  • Serve as a division-level leader supporting the strategic direction of Health Sciences programs.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement efforts to ensure academic excellence and program effectiveness.
  • Support Academic Affairs Administration in the development and implementation of enrollment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Support and coordinate the development, review, and revision of Health Sciences curricula in collaboration with faculty and divisional leadership to ensure alignment with workforce needs and academic standards.
Operations & Program Management
  • Coordinate Health Sciences student admission processes within assigned programs in alignment with institutional procedures and program requirements.
  • Coordinate office, instructional, and academic schedules in collaboration with Academic Affairs Administration.
