Junior High Paraprofessional
A paraprofessional helps the lead teacher in many different ways. The Junior High Paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of certified teachers to support students in grades 5-8. This role aids in academic instruction, reinforces classroom expectations, provides behavioral support, and assists students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans. The ideal candidate understands the unique developmental needs of early adolescents, showing patience, structure, and adaptability.
Attendance Tracking:
Accurately take roll and verify hall passes to ensure student accountability. Accurate attendance needs to be taken each class period, each day. Keep track of students that have sign-out to other locations.
Policy Enforcement:
Ensuring students adhere to study hall rules as well as school rules, particularly regarding electronic devices, dress code, and food/drink. Report to the Principal or guidance counselor regarding student issues as they occur. Maintain a quiet, orderly, and productive atmosphere conducive to studying. Circulate the room to ensure students remain actively engaged in academic tasks and are using technology appropriately.
Managing minor behavioral disruptions and escalating larger issues to administration.
Academic Support (Basic):
While not a certified teacher, a great monitor guides students on how to find resources, stay on task, and organize their assignments. You should never be on your phone in front of students unless there is an emergency. If you are helping a student with an assignment, try to use your laptop when possible to look up information. Dress appropriately for working with junior high students.
