Position: Extra-Help Early Childhood Substitute Teacher (Pool)

Extra-Help Early Childcare Education Substitute Teacher

Governors State University is seeking to hire an Extra-Help Early Childcare Education Substitute Teacher to support classroom teachers in maintaining required ratios and implementing daily classroom activities and routines. The position provides a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children ages 0-5 years old while adhering to DCFS, Early Head Start (EHS), Preschool for All Expansion (PFAE) Prevention Initiative (PI), and NAEYC accreditation standards.

Responsibilities
  • Implement an age-appropriate, success-oriented, developmentally appropriate center-based program using the designated curricula.
  • Integrate all aspects of Early Head Start Performance Standards, Illinois DCFS day care regulations, and NAEYC accreditation standards into the schedule and curriculum for each child.
  • Use active supervision to assure that all children are supervised within sight and sound at all times.
  • Maintain awareness of allergies and medical conditions. Administer medication as trained.
  • Eat with and assist children in the development of social and self-help skills and sound nutritional practice using Family Style Meal practices.
  • Work as a collaborative team to design an environment and activities designed to meet the health, safety, and educational needs of assigned children.
  • Follow and maintain daily routine and schedule and maintain classroom management.
  • Provide responsive caregiving, assist with feeding and diapering, and self-help skills, such as handwashing, toileting, tooth brushing, and hygiene practices as appropriate per age group.

  • At least 19 years of age
  • High school diploma or transcripts (must provide an official copy)
  • DCFS Teacher Qualified (60 hours of college with at least 6 hours of ECE credits.)
  • Must have a Gateways Early Childhood Level 1 Credential or working toward it.
