Agricultural Education Teacher

The Agricultural Education Teacher provides high-quality instruction in agriculture, welding, and natural resources and related Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. The teacher develops students' academic, technical, and career-readiness skills through classroom, laboratory, shop, greenhouse, and other hands-on learning experiences.

Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction in assigned agricultural education and CTE courses. Provide hands-on learning experiences that connect academic content with agriculture, industry, and career applications. Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, assessments, laboratory activities, and projects appropriate to course objectives and student needs. Assess student learning, maintain accurate records, and use student performance data to guide instruction. Integrate technology, employability skills, problem-solving, communication, and career-readiness competencies into instruction.

Maintain a safe and productive learning environment in classrooms, laboratories, shops, greenhouses, and other agricultural learning spaces. Establish and enforce appropriate safety procedures for the use of tools, equipment, machinery, and instructional facilities. Maintain equipment, tools, instructional materials, facilities, and inventories in safe working condition. Assist in developing and maintaining agricultural education curriculum and career pathways aligned with district, state, CTE, and industry expectations.

Develop partnerships with agricultural businesses, employers, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to enhance student learning and career opportunities. Assist students in exploring agricultural careers, postsecondary opportunities, industry credentials, internships, and work-based learning experiences. Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, school improvement activities, and other assigned professional responsibilities. Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, staff, administrators, and community partners. Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable laws, Board policies, administrative procedures, and professional standards.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or superintendent.

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement(s) or other appropriate Illinois CTE educator credential for assigned courses. Knowledge and experience in agricultural education, agricultural sciences, agricultural mechanics, horticulture, animal science, agribusiness, natural resources, or related areas. Ability to safely supervise students in the classroom, laboratory, shop, greenhouse, and other instructional environments. Strong communication, organizational, technology, and interpersonal skills.
