• Scope
• The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and the officer shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.
• The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to his colleagues and students as part and parcel of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.
• The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which he, being an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean or Head of the Kulliyyah/Centre/ Department.
• The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community.
• The officer is also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, he is not only a teacher (Mu'allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).
• Teaching TESL/TESOL/English Language Studies/Multicultural Education/ Literacy. Studies/Language Testing subjects to students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Teaching and supervising UG and PG students in English.
• Working harmoniously with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials.
• Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms in line with IIUM's standard and MQA's standard.
• Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
• Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
• Providing support to students and other colleagues.
• Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
• Conducting research, and writing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books.
• Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
• Supervising students undertaking teaching practicum at schools.
• Able to manage a wide range of administrative responsibilities.

• Bachelor of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language;
  Or any related Bachelor's Degree with a Diploma / Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
• Master Degree in Education or related field.
• A Ph.D. in related education fields (preferably from a University recognized by the JPA/ Public Service Department).
• Minimum 2 years teaching experience with local or international school or Higher Education Institution.
• Published work and background in research would be advantageous.

• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative and energetic, well-organized and committed.
• Skills in instructional technology & 21st century teaching skills preferred.

All candidates must have obtained:

• Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level OR equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
• IELTS Band 7 / MUET Band 4.

Candidate without any of these qualification will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
