Head of Department - Health and Physical Education

The Opportunity

Carey Baptist College (Harrisdale) is seeking a passionate and experienced leader to head our Health and Physical Education Department commencing in January 2027. This is a permanent full time position.

This exciting opportunity allows you to inspire and shape the learning experiences of students and to support the broad leadership of curriculum within the College and specifically within Health and Physical Education department.

• Developing a departmental vision and improvement plan that embeds the Teaching and Learning Framework and aligns with the College’s mission and vision and the Secondary Improvement Plan.
• Leading course programming, assessment, moderation, and accurate grading in accordance with SCSA and College requirements.
• Supervising, supporting, and evaluating departmental staff through regular classroom visits, professional learning plans, and annual reviews.
• Upholding high standards of pastoral care and student behaviour, including managing classroom send-outs and conducting student re-admittance meetings.
• Managing departmental budgets, operational timelines, and an accurate asset register.
• Supporting the Assistant Head of Secondary (Curriculum) in the development and administration of College timetables and rosters, curriculum meetings and communication, reporting and compliance, analysis of data, my Carey, and communication with parents.
