Brief Description
The Lincoln Generating Facility is a 656-692 MW natural gas‑fired "peaker" plant in Manhattan, Illinois, operated by Earthrise Energy. The Combustion Turbine Technician is a highly skilled technical role responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of aero‑derivative combustion turbine equipment. This position requires advanced knowledge of gas turbine systems, controls, instrumentation, and balance of plant equipment gained through technical training and hands‑on experience.
Technicians support safe, reliable plant performance while collaborating in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Operate and maintain combustion turbine equipment to ensure optimal unit efficiency, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform testing, calibration, programming, and troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems using schematics, vendor documentation, and diagnostic tools.
- Maintain accurate work history records, maintenance logs, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate equipment condition and recommend improvements that enhance reliability, safety, or cost effectiveness.
- Participate in developing and updating standard operating procedures and preventive maintenance plans.
- Provide technical training and guidance to other technicians as needed.
- Support scheduled and unscheduled outage activities and respond to call‑outs as required.
- Contribute to plant safety programs and ensure adherence to environmental and compliance standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical training, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, military technical experience, or equivalent industry background.
- Minimum 3 years of direct gas turbine operations and maintenance experience.
- Hands‑on experience with:
- GE Mark V control systems
- GE 7EA combustion turbines
- Proficiency with maintenance manuals and OEM technical requirements for modern gas turbines.
- Strong working knowledge of combustion turbine generating systems and balance‑of‑plant operations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer‑based tools.
- Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high‑voltage protective gear.
- Working near high‑voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
- Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
- Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
- Manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination for operating switches, push buttons, and other controls.
- Visual acuity requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Participation in a post‑offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
- Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
