Technician I to Technician III range: $28.50 to $41.25 hourly DOE.
Avangrid Power is seeking to fill a Wind Turbine Technician opening. The company will determine technician level based on experience and education. This position is responsible for onsite operations, maintenance, repairs, and replacement of equipment on a wind powered generation plant and leads in all areas of plant operations as directed by the Plant Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain wind turbine equipment and associated infrastructure including substation, collection, and transmission systems.
- Read schematics and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems with variable pitch and speed control systems.
- Perform component repair or replacement following manufacturer requirements.
- Comply with all project environmental health and safety programs.
- Perform preventive maintenance in accordance with OEM manuals.
- Adhere to effective internal controls.
- Collect data and prepare reports for wind plant reporting requirements.
- Perform retrofits, design modifications, and QA/QC functions.
- Support mechanical and commissioning walk‑downs for construction as needed.
- Increase knowledge of turbine or solar equipment and safety regulations.
- Work overtime on holidays, weekends, and on short notice; participate in an on‑call schedule.
- Travel to other sites on short notice (10–15% travel may be required).
- Perform duties with low, medium, and high voltage and in adverse weather conditions.
- One year college or technical school certificate; or 12 months related experience or wind industry training; or equivalent education/experience;
High School Diploma or GED. - Familiarity with maintenance and electronic testing equipment (e.g., voltage testers, clamp meters, oscilloscopes, megohmmeters, infrared testers, hydraulic torque equipment, alignment tools, hand and power tools).
- Advanced computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management and reporting systems, and computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to climb towers up to 100 meters daily to perform maintenance in the nacelle and hub.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work with electrical wires and distinguish color‑coded wires.
- Ability to interpret and follow written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
- Problem‑solving skills for situations with limited standardization.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment and crane/rigging requirements for facility maintenance.
- Demonstrated teamwork, initiative, and positive attitude.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Weight not exceed 285 lb (excluding equipment) when performing job‑related tasks.
- Experience in power plant operations and maintenance.
- Experience in wind and solar plant construction, operation, and maintenance, including turbine and solar power converters/inverters.
- Experience in high‑voltage switching.
- Related experience requiring strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Candidates living in or near the greater local area.
