WIND TECHNICIAN I – EDP Energias de Portugal S.A., Ellsworth, IL.
EDP Renewables is a global leader in the renewable energy sector with operations in more than 25 markets, including wind farms, solar parks, and energy storage projects.
What you will doExciting entry‑level position. The Wind Technician I is responsible for on‑site operations, maintenance, repairs, and replacement of equipment at one of EDP Renewables North America’s wind‑energy generation sites. Tasks include completing Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out (LOTO), tail board work, and required documentation, conducting inspections of equipment and tools for compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Main responsibilities- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of wind turbines and associated wind plant equipment including substation and tower switch gear.
- Proactively identify improvement opportunities and implement changes through appropriate channels.
- Identify safety gaps, mitigate risks, and provide recommendations to higher‑level technical staff and management.
- Demonstrate integrity, initiative, and teamwork.
- Comply with all environmental health and safety programs and act as a safety role model.
- Coordinate with the Remote Operations Control Center when necessary.
- Complete required training and participate in on‑the‑job training.
- Document all work performed using computer‑based service reporting procedures.
- Adhere to internal controls in effect.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school education preferred.
- Strong mechanical background, especially in gearing.
- 1–2 years relevant experience in wind energy or a related industry (preferred).
- Understanding of Microsoft products and related software.
- Experience with power plant operations and maintenance, wind plant operations and turbines (including turbine power converters).
- Familiarity with maintenance and electronic testing equipment and heavy equipment for facility maintenance.
- Proficient knowledge of SQL Server software, facility management, reporting systems, and diagnostic tools (preferred).
- Willingness and ability to pass a background investigation and drug test.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

- Read, interpret, and understand drawings and schematics to validate work activity and mitigate risks.
Requirements include frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting, and reaching. Ability to stand or sit for 8+ hours in an office. Ability to walk 0.25–0.5 miles per day, work on uneven surfaces, and climb turbine towers above 100 m. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Work in adverse weather 25% of the time. Must understand safety precautions.

SalaryHiring range: $50,720 – $63,400 annually. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience.
