The Electronic Component Engineer plays a critical role in sustaining and validating legacy electronic components to ensure long-term product reliability and compliance. This role owns end-to-end component validation activities, supporting component changes driven by obsolescence, supplier transitions, or design updates. The engineer leads validation efforts, coordinates testing across internal and external laboratories, and represents validation results in cross‑functional reviews to enable confident release decisions.
This position emphasizes continuous improvement through automation, improved test coverage, and reduced validation cycle time.
- Own end-to-end validation of electronic components for legacy electronic and electrical systems
- Lead component-level validation activities, including back‑to‑back validation of legacy versus replacement components
- Coordinate and manage testing activities with internal teams and external laboratories for EMC, vibration, environmental, and other hardware testing
- Work closely with suppliers to track deliverables, address issues, and ensure compliance with validation requirements
- Support component sustainment efforts related to obsolescence, supplier changes, and compliance needs
- Represent validation results in design and release review meetings, enabling data‑driven decisions
- Collaborate with system, validation, and supplier engineering teams to align on standards, guidelines, and test strategies
- Identify and implement automation opportunities using scripts or tools to improve test efficiency, coverage, and repeatability
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing lifecycle risk and improving validation effectiveness
- Provide technical guidance and hands‑on support for validation tasks as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field (required)
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is acceptable
- Associate or 2‑year degrees are not accepted
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in electronic hardware, component engineering, or validation roles
- Internship experience does not count toward the required years of experience
- Strong understanding of electronic hardware and components
- Proven component and hardware validation capabilities
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional and global collaboration
- Knowledge of electronic and electrical systems
- Experience with component‑level and system‑level validation
- Familiarity with EMC, vibration, and environmental testing methodologies
- Ability to work with internal and external test laboratories
- Understanding of validation standards, guidelines, and compliance requirements
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to work in a globally distributed team environment
- Ownership mindset with strong accountability for deliverables
- Comfort working in Agile or iterative engineering environments
