Job DetailsPurpose:
Analyst supporting sonar development programs and related analysis. Work includes assisting analysis teams that perform software development, acoustic data analysis, and simulation tasks for the Environmental Science Laboratory (ESL) at ARL.
- Conduct acoustic reconstruction/analyses of fleet exercises and operations to determine the effectiveness of active and passive sonar systems at sea using quantitative measures of effectiveness (MOEs) of operational importance to the Fleet.
- Perform active and passive sonar signal analysis supporting advanced research and development. Prepare and review analysis presentations, reports, and databases.
- Present analysis results at internal and external working group meetings.
- Coordinate and conduct at‑sea experimental reconstruction activities, including acoustic signal analysis and performance improvement analyses in support of cross‑functional system engineering and development teams within the Environmental Sciences Laboratory.
- Other related functions as assigned.
- HS Diploma/GED.
- Six years of operational experience in the employment and expert analysis of U.S. Navy sonar systems.
- Demonstrated ability to reconstruct and analyze active and passive sonar data.
- Demonstrated ability to develop acoustic collection plans and deliver briefings to senior U.S. Navy commands.
- Work as a team member, independently, with peers, clients, and management.
- Direct sponsor and peer contact.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- More than six years of operational experience in the employment and expert analysis of U.S. Navy sonar systems.
- Experience briefing and advising command‑level officers and senior civilian personnel.
- Extensive experience in U.S. Navy surface ship and submarine anti‑submarine warfare (ASW) operations such as possession of U.S. Navy ASW Specialist or Sonar Supervisor qualifications.
- Extensive experience with Integrated Undersea Surveillance Systems (IUSS) sensors and operations such as possession of U.S. Navy IUSS Master Qualification.
- Qualification as U.S. Navy Master Training Specialist or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge and operational experience with current and planned U.S. Navy sonar systems and Advanced Processor Build (APB) and Advanced Capability Build (ACB) sonar systems.
- Experience with Matlab, Python or similar programming languages.
US Citizen. Selected applicant is subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at a level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
Salary Range$55,000 – $73,000+/negotiable based on qualifications.
