Job Title:
Metallurgical Process Engineer

Position Overview:
Metallurgical Engineers are responsible for studying the properties and characteristics of metals and other non-metallic materials. They use their specialized knowledge to develop new metal alloys, improve existing ones, and investigate the cause of metal failures. The Metallurgical Process Engineer will be responsible for: performing quality investigations, reviewing industry and customer specifications, providing support for quality system, evaluating metallurgical specimens, preparing and testing samples (tensile, hardness, microstructure), aiding in research and development, evaluating and presenting data, communicating with customers, and certifying material.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, implement and improve metal refining and processing procedures
Test metals to ensure they meet specific standards and specifications
Investigate and determine the reasons for metal failures and defects
Develop new alloys to meet engineering needs
Work with other engineers to select the best material for specific products
Plan and evaluate new projects, including estimates on cost, time, and materials
Monitor the performance of metals and non-metals in use
Oversee the extraction and processing of minerals from the earth
Prepare and present technical reports and findings to senior management
Stay up to date with advancements in metallurgy and materials science
Complete all assigned training, including monthly health and safety sessions.
Provide customer service technical support as needed to address complaints, product applications, operational issues, new business opportunities, product development, etc.
Assist Quality Departments with corrective action investigations and root cause analysis including sample preparation, metallography and failure analysis using industry standards.
Help develop processing for new grades or alloys (trials), review and approve process standards, streamline processes, work to reduce processing costs and act as technical liaison to all CWI facilities.
Review, approve and develop raw material specifications and/or updates.
Provide technical assistance to manufacturing facilities including process standardization.
Conduct technical training sessions in operations/locations for operating, sales and staff personnel as required.
Collaborate with suppliers, CWI production facilities, and customers towards product improvements.
Establish, amend, and / or approve Quality System Procedures and Practices in support of ISO 9001:2015 and AS 9100:2016.
Develop expertise in ERP System Management
Other duties as assigned.

Duties and responsibilities:
Work with all machinery included but limited to multi hole, bull block, High Alloy, Strand Annealing and Acid House
Review and approve customers' certifications
Proficiently use all measuring and test equipment, metallography equipment and related tools
Will maintain the QMS and reporting of any nonconforming
Follow all PPE
Work in various temperature environments
Work in a dusty environment
Read SDS's to familiarized with chemicals used
Adhere to safety protocols and procedures
Work from ladders and lifts
Initiate internal or supplier corrective action
Reject wire rod found non-conforming to purchase requirements
Stop production when non-conforming wire is found
Approve wire for production or shipment to customers
Approve new or revisions to existing QC related documents
Approve temporary changes to existing documents and request changes to existing documents
Work Overtime
Preferred qualifications:
Metallurgy/material BS science degree or equivalent experience
5 years' Metallurgical experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment preferred.
Experience with stainless steel, nickel alloys, and/or red metals is desirable.
Laboratory Experience
Familiarity with Failure Analysis
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Skilled in using Microsoft Word and Excel
Strong customer service skills
Ability to communicate - verbal and written.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to perform basic math functions with accuracy.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Multi-Tasking skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
