System Design Engineer (Lab Management and Validation) – Contract
Location: Markham, Canada

Role Overview
The System Design Engineer will assist the Platform GPU Validation Lab Management team in organizing, operating and maintaining a lab environment suitable for GPU Validation activities, with specific setups for each IP group as well as engaging with cross-functional teams in hardware (design, architecture) and software (drivers, SBIOS/VBIOS, diagnostics, tools) to establish, document, and review the deliverables/requirements for the GPU verification efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, track, and distribute silicon for testing
- Maintain and audit lab assets to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with health and safety standards
- Recommend optimal lab space design and initial setup for compliance and functionality
- Configure and build PC platforms tailored to specific IP groups
- Procure and distribute hardware/software required for lab operations
- Train teams on specialized testing equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, data analyzers)
- Developing knowledge of system architecture/debug and other IP's
- Conducting qualification and validation work based on test plan, use cases, and technical requirements
- Debug of issues found during pre-silicon, bring up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs
- Working closely with supporting teams in design, diagnostics, emulation, firmware, and driver to ensure readiness for first silicon arrival, enablement of functionality, and debug of critical features.
- Leading collaborative technical discussions to drive resolution on technical issues and roll out technical initiatives
- Strong programming/scripting skills (eg. C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python)
- Experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Experience with board/platform-level debug
- Knowledge of physical and protocol levels of common high-speed interfaces an asset
- Knowledge of PC architecture is an asset
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must excel in a dynamic team working environment
- Leadership and mentoring skills are a definite asset
- Project management skills, including planning, execution, and reporting
- Must be a self-starter and be able to independently drive tasks to completion
- Experience in machine learning, data science, computer vision and statistics
- Ability to be flexible in terms of responsibilities
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Related Field
