Position Summary
The Waste Coordinator is responsible for managing waste characterization, storage, transportation, and disposal activities in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. This position supports environmental programs by coordinating waste streams, maintaining regulatory documentation, and ensuring safe and efficient waste management practices across facilities and project sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the collection, segregation, labeling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Conduct waste determinations and profile waste streams for proper handling and disposal.
- Prepare and maintain waste manifests, land disposal restriction notifications, bills of lading, and other regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate with approved treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs), recyclers, and transportation vendors.
- Schedule waste shipments and monitor disposal activities to ensure timely service and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate waste inventory records and tracking databases.
- Conduct routine inspections of waste accumulation areas and storage locations.
- Support spill response activities and waste management associated with emergency response operations.
- Provide guidance and training to employees regarding waste handling procedures and environmental compliance requirements.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste generation and improve recycling and sustainability initiatives.
- Assist in developing and updating waste management plans, standard operating procedures, and environmental compliance programs.
- Existing relationships with TSDFs and Transporters
- Strong working knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, and DOT
- Project management skills
- Ability to read and interpret laboratory analysis for waste characterization
- Minimum 5-years managing environmental remediation, hazardous waste, and RCRA compliance related projects.
