SUMMARY:

Westell is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer for a full-time position with our product development team in the Naperville / Aurora, Illinois area. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys taking products from concept through production and wants to see their designs deployed in real-world critical infrastructure. You will lead the electrical architecture, design, validation, and productization of next-generation communications and intelligent infrastructure products, working directly with product management, operations, manufacturing, software, and customers, with significant influence over product direction and technical decisions.

Westell offers engineers the opportunity to own complete product designs and make visible contributions that directly impact company growth and customer success.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

* Own New Product Electrical Design (Concept to Production)

* Solve Complex Design Challenges

* Design for Manufacturability & Compliance

* Scout New Technologies & Partners

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Own the electrical architecture and detailed design of new products, from concept and schematic capture through PCB layout direction, board bring-up, and production release.

* Solve the problems that define product performance: high-speed digital and mixed-signal design, signal and power integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal, and long-term reliability in demanding field environments.

* Select components and architectures with an eye to performance, cost, supply resilience, and the long product life cycles typical of critical-infrastructure equipment.

* Drive design for manufacturability and testability, partnering with operations and contract manufacturers to move designs cleanly into volume production.

* Design in compliance from the start, planning for FCC and UL requirements (for example, FCC Part 15 and UL 62368-1) and supporting certification and qualification testing.

* Productize internally and externally developed designs, including bills of materials, part and test specifications, schematics, and validation plans.

* Identify emerging technologies and technical partners that open new product opportunities.

* Serve as the product technical authority for customers, sales, and operations across the full product life cycle.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required:

* Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).

* 7+ years of electrical hardware design experience.

* Proven success developing products from concept through production.

* Strong hardware design experience across embedded hardware, high-speed digital systems, processor, memory, and I/O interfaces, signal integrity and EMI mitigation, and schematic capture and PCB design tools.

* Experience troubleshooting complex electrical systems using laboratory instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector / network analyzers, and signal generators.

* Working knowledge of FCC and UL safety standards (for example, UL 62368-1 and FCC Part 15).

* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred:

* Advanced engineering degree, with continuing education and professional certifications.

* Experience with power conversion, battery backup, and power distribution systems.

* Experience with wireless, telecom, networking, or industrial infrastructure products.

* Experience with Altium Designer and Agile PLM.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

* Required to sit, stand, bend and walk regularly; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

* Visual and auditory ability sufficient for written and verbal communication.

* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
