Caterpillar's Leadership and Technical Development Program (LTDP) for Automation and Robotics is a three‑year rotational program focused on acceleration of entry‑level talent in operations and manufacturing. The Automation and Robotics track builds technical competency in process design, analysis, research and development, technology introduction, and automation integration.
What You Will DoProfessionals in the program complete two 18‑month rotations across North American facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Foundational Automation
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Product Development
- Supplier Engagement
Key skills:
- Analytical, problem‑solving, root cause analysis and critical thinking
- Knowledge of engineering principles and experience from projects, internships or work
- Understanding of manufacturing environment and ability to design and implement automation solutions
- Ability to manage multiple projects and quickly acquire new skills
- Collaboration across diverse cultures and abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Commitment to an inclusive, constructive environment and valuing team contributions
- Completed degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics, Robotics or related field
- Minimum cumulative GPA 2.8/4.0
- Willingness to relocate domestically by business need and post‑program assignment
- Program start dates:
January and June 2027
- 0‑2 years of manufacturing or robotics experience (internships or academic projects)
- Project or team leadership experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ideal for early‑career professionals building foundational manufacturing and automation skills

- Rotation locations may include Midwest, Southeast, Texas, Southern California
